The Statutes, Commands, and Fear of God

Greetings;

I am enjoying being home in Bellingham. We have had a lot of rain, but that is making all things green. After a great Easter service last week, we found ourselves in a sense of a new season at Alife on Sunday. Jeremy James gave a great world yesterday on facing our fears. I am ready to see God’s love form the world I live in. This is another week and another opportunity to see God working in our lives.

I have been writing on discovering secrets to living a satisfied life. I have written on how the law of God’s love converts our souls. This is not the bondage of rules and regulations that control our lives, but a changed heart and mind by a growing revelation of God’s love. Our thoughts, reasoning, emotions, desires, and imaginations are being transformed by Christ within us. The testimonies of God are making us wiser than the wisdom of the flesh. God is good and the poetic experiences of His power at work in our lives is wisdom of the flesh. Sometimes God’s poetic realities outweigh our theological understandings of God. God just does things and everything changes! The third secret to human identity is found in the statutes of God.

Psalms 19:8 the statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart…

What is a statute? A statute is a commission or a mandate. It is about finding the power to be responsible in all that has been given to us to be and do in life. We make a great us and a terrible someone else. When we embrace who we are and live fully for who we are, we discover the ability to give life to our worlds. In this, we find joy in our hearts. When we become life-giving in our commissions and mandates in life we find that our hearts rejoice. Our commissions and mandates concern who God declares us to be. It is about being true to who we are according to who God made, and is making, us to be. We can be life-giving in our marriages, our families, our communities, and all that is within of our world. We are not responsible for someone else’s world, jut our own. God is with us to empower us to be responsible in all of our God-given responsibilities in life. By this we will give life to our worlds.

Psalms 19:8 the statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes…

God’s commandments enlighten our eyes. What is a command? A command is an ordinance. In a city or community there are ordinances. Those ordinances are there so the community will not become something it was not intended to be. Among men there are many ordinances that are less than life-giving and are often focused on special interest groups and personal agendas. God’s ordinances concern a community of an abundance of life. We don’t understand the ordinances of God. He is much more merciful, much more forgiving, much more loving, and much more life-giving in every way than us. It is not until we willingly embrace His ways that we can truly understand His ways. His ordinances cause us to see, but our natural sight doesn’t allow us to see His ordinances. To see clearly in the way of life, we must be empowered to embrace His ordinances. His commands or ordinances enlighten our eyes. True vision can only come when see what God sees and when we see things the way God sees them. God’s ordinances change our perspective on everything. We must trust what God sees and the way He sees it more than we trust our own view on matters in life.

Psalms 19:9 the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever…

The fear of the Lord makes us clean and enduring. What is the fear of the Lord? It is a moral inspiration and awe of who He is. A revelation of who He is causes us to be in awe of who He is. Only an awe of who He us can truly make us pure and enduring in life. We must see God for who He is, or we will become grasshoppers in the sight of our world. We must see that all things are as grasshoppers in the sight of our heavenly Father. We must see Him as big enough for any situation in our lives and we must see Him as the awe inspire love of our hearts. We are not afraid of Him like we would be afraid of an enemy. We have a reverence, an awe, and an awareness of how great He is in all things. By this we become inspired to live for Him in every way and in all things. Our zeal becomes a flame for His will and His glory when we see Him for who He really is. This gives us ability to live a passionately holy and enduring life! We are all in! Nothing is held back from Him when we see Him as He truly is!
